Every year on this very night December 31st of every single year people go out and celebrate the new year. Most people go get crazy wasted as I call it, some people stay in with friends and family and some like me choose to utilize this night and day to plan goals for the next year. Every since I was in college I always used to really use this day as a sort of pre planning for the next year. Now as I am older I realize that I was using the secret before the secret was even a thing.
Some of the best traditions that I never go without are from my Sicilian heritage ( 100 100 n proud) here are some of the few I love to do every since December. I think you all should adopt some of these amazing traditions into your own routines!
Most Sicilians believe that giving away old items is the best way to reign in new luck and fortune for the new year. We typically throw away everything we are not using and clean clean like crazy all of December. I have given away quite a few things this December and my friends have been very lucky to receive some nice brand new things! Although in the old days most of us would throw things out the window that’s not really acceptable anymore so giving to friends and donating is typical for Sicilians and Italians throughout the month of December.
Although this isn’t a per say Sicilian thing I always eat cabbage on New years Day, always. No matter what I will be picking some up today at the grocery store after my mani pedi!
I typically like to bake on new years day, this year I am making Lasagna and Nugatoli for dessert. Which are cookies stuffed with chopped almonds, chopped pistachios, and cinnamon and I like to add a little touch of icing.
So what re your New years Traditions?
